K31 Swiss safety issue
I recently bought a K31 , question is, although this rifle appears to be in awesome shape, Im kind of afraid to fire it off! has any issues been found with these straight pull bolts flying into someones face? I now it sounds paranoid, the gun seems to cycle fine. and i see it locks when pushed forward.

I have two and they both shoot and function fine. You could always have a gunsmith kick the tires on it before you fire it if it will set your mind at ease. Once you do fire it you will like the straight pull bolt system.

Re: K31 Swiss safety issue
you got my interest up so I googled this review up:
http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/...ad.php?t=94099 The second con suggests that slightly more force is required than normal to ensure the bolt has ridden home and fully locked. But then further down the thread people are suggesting not the gun but the ammo might cause this. Sounds like a fine gun to me with very good accuracy with the right ammo. Any chance of a pic? |

Re: K31 Swiss safety issue
Tie it to a tree and pull a cord from behind a bunker. I had one of these back in the 60-70s that was rechambered for 308[7.62 NATO]. Scary now that I think about it; but it never even hickupped pushing that .308 slug down a .300 bore barrel. My dad had bought it from a mail order outfit back in about 1960 for $29.95 with a dinky 4 power scope and passed it on to me. We got to wondering in later years if they had bothered to bore out that barrel to .308 when they rechambered it? I had shot a couple deer with it and I know that he had got a big 11 point withit in 61. Sold it sometime in the late 70s.

If the buttstock on your weapon looks "beat up" (with a scuzzier finish than the rest of the wood), see the attached picture to explain why. They also have GREAT trigger pulls, as issued. Not gritty at all. If you do any reloading with the 7.5x55 cartridge, you will need to watch your bullet seating depth. These rifles have a short throat, and seem to prefer "pointy" .308 projectiles. hoot - the bore diameter on K31 rifles is .308, not .300. Not sure about the older Swiss rifles. |

I've always loved the 6.5x55, I assume it is related to the 7.5? |

I've always been amazed at just how loooooong the bullet looks sticking out the end of a 6.5x55 case. As to reloaders understanding ogive, well....I suspect some know it better than others. When reloading for most common calibers, chamber throat/bullet ogive doesn't seem to be as critical as when reloading for the 7.5x55. |

Shoot it.
Really. Like asking if you shouldn't wear the Rolex 'cuz it might discolor your wrist. BTW, they're a little more slick (it seems to me) when they are loaded out. HAVE FUN, MAN! Go on, do it! |
